HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES?

Hard Call is a personal service for people who want to avoid awkward, uncomfortable, or stressful communication. We investigate, research, and communicate on behalf of our customers, handling what they’d prefer not to.

We’re looking for thoughtful, articulate, and empathetic individuals with strong life experience, common sense, and exceptional writing and reasoning skills. You’ll act as a quiet problem solver behind the scenes.

Key Responsibilities

Draft concise, clear, and emotionally neutral messages on behalf of customers

Conduct web-based research to support customer requests (e.g., dispute resolution, price checks, product details, company policies)

Use judgment and discretion when making inquiries or sending communications

Deliver outcomes with tact and professionalism

Respect privacy and handle sensitive situations with care

Requirements

Exceptional written communication—able to write clearly, quickly, and in a range of tones

Strong computer literacy (web tools, search, documentation, email/text platforms)

Sound judgment and maturity—ability to “read the room” even when you're not in it

Sharp attention to detail

Excellent time management and follow-through

Life experience and emotional intelligence—this job favors people who’ve been through things

A calm, professional demeanor in high-pressure or delicate situations

Not always necessary but nice to have

Customer service or conflict resolution background

Psychology, communications, or writing background

Experience with emotionally sensitive or high-stakes communication

Comfort working independently and asynchronously

How to Apply

If you're interested in becoming a Hard Call Agent, we don’t want your résumé…..yet. We want a message.

Write us an email that demonstrates the very skills this job requires: clear writing, emotional insight, common sense, and good judgment. We're not just interested in what you say, we're evaluating how you say it.

In your email, please include the following:

A short story about a time you handled something difficult on someone else’s behalf, professionally or personally.

A description of how your life experience makes you a better communicator or problem solver.

What interests you about Hard Call, and how you think you'd contribute to the work.

Keep your message under 500 words. Write it like you're writing to someone you respect, not a company.

(and What We’re Not)

✅ Qualifying Traits:

Clear, confident, and natural writing (no corporate fluff or AI-written tone)

A message that’s well-structured, without typos or grammar issues

❌ Disqualifying Signs:

Generic or vague language (“I’m a people person,” “I like helping”)

Overselling, pandering, or trying too hard to sound perfect

No real story or example to back up their claims

Writing that feels cold, careless, or overly formal

Copy-pasted bios or résumé-style intros
